Prattville's Clark named South MVP in softball
Prattville's Casey Clark made her mark Wednesday night
Prattville's Casey Clark made her mark Wednesday night in the All-Star Sports Week softball doubleheader.
Clark belted a home run in the first game and earned MVP honors for the South as her squad forced a split with the North team. The North won the first game 7-6 and the South took the final game 6-1 at Huntsville's Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex.
"After she got a hit in the second game, I remember thinking, 'maybe she'll get it'," Prattville coach Fawn Sims said. "She stood out with her performance. She was grinning ear-to-ear when they announced the MVPs. It was an exciting night for her."
Clark was 2-for-2 in the doubleheader with two RBIs, two runs and two walks. Clark put the South on the board first in Game 1 with a third-inning solo blast to left field. It was the South's first hit of the game.
"I think the home run shocked her at first," Sims said. "There hadn't been a lot of offense at that point. She had a 0-2 count and she just turned on it."
A six-run fifth inning put the North up 7-2 before the South rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Clark drew a bases-loaded walk to score the first run on the inning and later scored on a single.
Alabama Christian's Lauren Webster, the Class 4A Pitcher of the Year, pitched three innings in Game 1, allowed three hits and struck out four of the 10 batters she faced.
St. James's Laura Ostrye scored a run in Game 2.
