Lady Hawks Fall, 81-62, to Cross-Town Rival Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Huntingdon College's women's basketball team (8-12, 4-6 GSAC) fell at home, 81-62, to cross-town rival Faulkner University (18-5) on Monday evening in Roland Arena.
Senior Ashton Salter led the Lady Hawks with 15 points, followed by junior LaTerial Williams and sophomore Devin Douglas with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Douglas and senior Chalise Hopkins paced the team each with 6 rebounds in the loss.
In the first half, Faulkner jumped out to an early 5 point lead, before senior Ashton Salter nailed a three-pointer for the Lady Hawks. The Lady Eagles went up 9-3, prior to Huntingdon's 6 point scoring streak with sophomore Devin Douglas's game-tying jumper, with 10:41 left in the half.
Faulkner mounted an 11-0 run midway through the first half, including three straight three-pointers extending the lead to 20-9. The Lady Hawks cut the deficit to seven points with four minutes left in the half, 30-23, but the Lady Eagles finished the first half up by 12 points, 43-31.
Despite trailing after one half of action, the Lady Hawks hit 60 percent (6-of-10) on three-point shots, compared to Faulkner's 42.9 percent (6-of-14). Senior Ashton Salter led Huntingdon's offense with 12 points, including a perfect 3-of-3 on three-point shots.
Faulkner's Brittney Carter scored six straight points to open the second half extending the Lady Eagles lead to 18 points, 49-31, before Huntingdon was able to score a point. However, Huntingdon responded with an 8-0 run trimming Faulkner's lead to 10 points, 49-39, including Salter's fourth three-pointer of the game.
The Lady Eagles went up by 23 points with 3:04 remaining in the game, as Faulkner controlled its double-digit lead in the second half for a 19 point victory, 81-62, in Roland Arena. Sophomore Brittney Carter recorded a game-high 32 points and 15 rebounds in the Lady Eagles' win over Huntingdon.
For the game, Faulkner held a 37-33 advantage on the glass. The Lady Eagles out shot Huntingdon 48.3 percent (29-of-60) to 35.9 percent (23-of-64).
The Lady Hawks return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 9, traveling to Decatur, Ga. against Great South Athletic Conference opponent, Agnes Scott College, at 5 p.m. central time.
