NEW YORK, N.Y. --- Following a fall season which featured a pair of victories, the Huntingdon men’s golf team will enter its spring season ranked second in the nation, according to the final fall Golf World/NIKE Division III Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
The Hawks received 446 total points, 29 points behind Methodist, who earned all 19 first-place votes and won all four of the events it played this fall. Skidmore moved up two stops to third, while Guilford and Oglethorpe round out the top five. In head-to-head competition against the top five, Huntingdon sports a 4-2 record, including a 3-0 mark against the defending National Champion Petrel.
Leading the way during the fall season for the Hawks was sophomore Mack Duke, who posted a 74.0 scoring average and finished in the top 15 in all four events.
Junior Chase Blaich also enjoyed a strong fall, recording a 74.5 scoring average, while posting a season-low round of 69 in the opening round of the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational. He also finished in the top 20 in all four events.
The Hawks will also welcome back two-time All-South Region selection in junior J.P. Kircher, who did not compete this fall. Kircher, who was a PING Third-Team All-American last season, averaged 73.58 strokes per round last season, while in his 10 regular-season tournaments, the Rochester, N.Y. native finished in the top-10 nine times and in the top-five on six occasions.
Huntingdon will return to the links on February 22-23, when it hosts the Wynlakes Wynternationals at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club.
