MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The senior duo of Leon Frazier and Reggie Sprouse combined to score 49 points, but Birmingham-Southern had 14 players score, including four in double figures, as the Panthers defeated the Hawks 89-76 at Roland Arena on Saturday.
Frazier, who has scored atleast 17 points in all six games this season, finished with a game-high 26 points, while adding four rebounds, all on the offensive glass. Sprouse added 23 points and a team-best six rebounds.
Huntingdon (2-4) held its own early in the contest, but BSC took the lead for good less than two minutes into the game on a triple by Blaise White. After taking a 5-4 lead on a Frazier trey, the Panthers (7-0) answered with 3-pointers on four straight possessions, taking a 16-5 lead.
The Hawks trimmed the margin to two points, 16-14, after a 9-0 spurt coming out of a timeout, but were unable to get any closer throughout the game.
Keying the Panthers was their success at the free throw line, as they converted 25-of-29 shots from the charity stripe, compared to just 13-of-20 for the Hawks. In addition, the depth of BSC also played a strong role, as its bench outscored the Huntingdon bench 36-22.
White led the Panthers with 18 points, while Jasen Jonus added 14 points. Aaron Parr chipped in 10 points, while Roger Williams came off the bench to score 10 points as well.
For the game, Huntingdon hit 28-of-61 shots from the floor, good for 45.9 percent. The Panthers converted 45 percent of their shots.
The Hawks will hit the road for the first time this season one week from today, when they play the first game of the Sewanee Invitational against #7 Guilford. Tip-off against the Quakers is schedule for 3 p.m.
