MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- Sophomore Chase Rogers fired a one-under par round of 71 to capture the Individual Championship and the top-ranked Huntingdon men’s golf team posted a final round 293 to capture the Team Championship of the Wynlakes Wynternationals on Tuesday.
The Hawks finished with a team total of 591, 30 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Rhodes. Huntingdon’s “B” team and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College finished tied for third with a 632 total, while Linfield and Alabama State finished tied for fifth two strokes back.
Rogers, who also led after the first round, carded the low round of the tournament with the 71 on Tuesday, finished three strokes ahead of freshman teammate Mack Duke. Rogers won the individual honor by posting a two-round total of one-under par 143, while Duke finished second at 146.
Junior Cody Causey and sophomore J.P. Kircher each finished tied for sixth with two-day totals of 151. Kircher fired a one-over par round of 73 on Tuesday, while Causey carded a 76. Sophomore Chase Blaich rounded out the scoring with a 78.
The Huntingdon “B” team was led by sophomore Jay Unis, who carded a 76 in the final round and finished tied for 11th. Senior Justin Williams also rebounded from a disappointing 83 on Monday to shoot 76 on Tuesday.
The Hawks will return to action on Monday, March 2, when they participate in the Calloway Invitational, played at the Calloway Gardens Golf Club in Pine Mountain, Ga.
