NEW ALBANY, Miss. – No. 20 Faulkner blasted Blue Mountain 12-0 and 10-1 here Saturday afternoon behind the pitching of starters Jacob Simmons and Damon Porter, sweeping the weekend's three-game series.
Simmons improved to 5-0 on the season, scattering seven hits in six innings of work in the opener for Faulkner (15-2). Porter (2-0) tossed four innings and allowed only two hits in the nightcap, with Colby Broussard going the final three innings for the Eagles.
Kenny Miramontes, Jonathan Gober and Michael Clayton each had four hits and four RBI on the day, while John Gunnels had three hits and four runs scored. Tucker Willard added three hits, with Matt Parker contributing two hits and three RBI.
In the first game of the three-game series, played late Friday night, the Eagles’ R. L. Eisenbach improved to 4-0 by holding Blue Mountain to only two hits in six-plus innings of work as Faulkner won 8-2. John Gunnels’ two-run single in the third highlighted a three-run outburst that provided all the offense Eisenbach would need. Gunnels finished the game with three hits and three RBI, while Jonathan Gober also drove in three runs. Matt Parker and Tucker Willard each had a pair of hits in the game for the Eagles.
Faulkner travels to Columbus, Ga., Tuesday to take on Thomas College. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
