Allen, Alter Receive Academic Honors

MONTGOMERY—Sara Allen of the Auburn Montgomery softball team and Bruce Alter of the baseball team have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District softball and baseball teams. The teams were voted on by active members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Allen was named to the College Division’s second team. She is a sophomore from Montgomery and is majoring in Nursing.

Allen was the starting catcher for the Lady Senators, playing 32 games and hitting .319 on the season. She led the team in triples with five and had six doubles.

Alter was also named to the College Division’s second team. He is a senior, also from Montgomery, and is majoring in Biology.

Alter has been a four-year member of the baseball team and hit .331 this season while playing and starting 50 games. He had eight homeruns, 11 doubles and two triples while driving in 37.

To be nominated for the academic award, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average at their institution. They must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games and must have completed one full calendar year at the institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
