AUM Softball Ready For Tournament

By Adam Bagni

MONTGOMERY—To say the inaugural season of AUM Softball has been a success is an understatement. All the Lady Senators have done is win 30 games, win 18 games in the conference to finish fourth, and to be ranked among the top 30 teams in the nation throughout the season.

When Chris Wilcoxson made out the schedule, she did not hold back on whom she scheduled. AUM scheduled 30 games against teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason poll. So to win 30 games against such a tough scheduled was a story in and of itself.

Now the Lady Senators will take its 30-19-1 record into its first conference tournament as the fourth seed. AUM will face the fifth-seed, Reinhardt College, tomorrow at 10 a.m. The tournament will be at Alto Park Softball Complex in Rome, Ga.

AUM is led on the mound by freshman Brandi Richards. She has a 12-5 record and leads the conference with a 0.57 earned run average and has 229 strikeouts. She threw a perfect game, and has four one-hitters to her credit this season.

Stephanie Baxley (11-4) and Danielle Ryan (7-10) have both had solid first seasons. Baxley has a 1.40 ERA and Ryan has a 1.86.

Sara Allen and Stacin Halverson have been offensive leaders for the Lady Senators. Both are hitting .396 on the season. Halverson leads the team with 55 hits, 29 runs scored and has 10 stolen bases. Allen has 28 RBI and a team-high six triples.

Whitney Wyatt leads the power numbers for AUM. She has nine homeruns, 12 doubles, and 34 RBI, all team-highs. She is also hitting .331 and has received 13 bases on balls.

Alli Converse has five homeruns and 25 RBI. She is hitting .349 and has walked a team-high 15 times.
