MONTGOMERY—Shorter College and Auburn University at Montgomery split a softball double-header today with Shorter winning the first game 2-1 and AUM coming out on top in game two, 2-0.

In the first game, Shorter was able to score two unearned runs on an AUM infield throwing error, and Shorter College was able to make the two runs stand up. There were two walks in the inning and the throwing error, as Shorter scored the two runs without the aid of a hit.

AUM was able score a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Becky Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to score Kendall Thomas.

AUM would get no closer as Becca Thomas (15-3) picked up the win.

Brandi Richards (12-6) was the loser as she only allowed one hit and the two unearned runs. She had seven strikeouts in her five innings of work. Stephanie Baxley came in and finished the game pitching the final two innings.

AUM out-hit Shorter 8-2 with Alli Converse and Joanna Reynolds picking up two hits each.

In the second game AUM’s Danielle Ryan (7-10) pitched six innings allowing five hits and no runs in picking up the win. Baxley picked up her first save of the season pitching the final inning.

AUM again out-hit Shorter 10-5 with Reynolds picking up three hits and Whitney Wyatt picking up two.

AUM scored a run in the first inning on a Converse hit scoring Reynolds who had singled earlier in the inning. AUM scored its second run in the fifth inning as Wyatt led off the inning with a double. Ashley Souders came in to run for Wyatt and she scored when Richards hit a double into right centerfield.

It would be all the runs AUM would need in the shutout win. AUM moves to 30-19-1 overall and 18-11-1 in the conference. Shorter is now 32-12 overall and 21-5 in conference action. AUM still has a make-up date at Faulkner before the start of the conference tournament. That date will be announced this week.
