MONTGOMERY—Lee University swept AUM 4-2 and 4-2 in both games of a double-header today to complete the weekend series sweep of the Senators.

The story of the day was AUM’s defensive errors that allowed Lee to score six unearned runs in the two games.

Never was that more apparent than in the fifth inning of the second game with no score in the game, AUM made two defensive errors on the infield that led to four unearned runs. Chris Warters had the big hit in the inning with a bases-loaded two-out single to score the first two runs. Two more runs scored one batter later on the second error.

AUM tried to make a comeback scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to enter the seventh inning trailing by the two runs. AUM had two outs and two on in the bottom of the seventh when Cody Chizmar’s long fly ball to the centerfield fence was caught for the third out.

Stephen Yates (6-3) was the hard-luck loser. He pitched five innings only allowing four hits and all four unearned runs. He struck out three.

Cody Shields, Bruce Alter and Shane Moye all had two hits as AUM out hit Lee 10-5. Clay Booth and Shields had the RBI.

Warters had a hit with the two RBI to lead Lee’s offense. Brian Bistagne had two hits. Chris Dubon and Junior Rodriguez had the other two hits.

Dave Mason (8-2) was the winner for Lee and Brandon Cunniff entered the game in the fifth inning and picked up his third save of the season.

In the first game, Lee scored an unearned run in the fourth and fifth inning to lead 2-0.

Shields cut the lead to one in the bottom of the sixth inning with a double to deep right centerfield scoring Fletcher Wilkinson from first base.

Warters had the big blow in game one as well, as he launched a two-run homerun over the right field fence to spot Lee to a 4-1 lead in the top of the final inning.

AUM was able to score another run in the bottom of the seventh when Bruce Alter connected on his sixth homerun of the season, but the Senators could get no closer.

Brock Piper (3-3) picked up the loss allowing six hits and two unearned runs in the process. Joel Matthews (5-1) picked up the win allowing five hits and one run. Pablo Lopez picked up his ninth save of the season pitching the final inning.

AUM is now 28-19 overall and 15-9 in the conference while Lee moves to 41-9 overall and 18-6. The Senators will be back in action Tuesday evening when it host Spring Hill College at 5 p.m.
