MOBILE—Shaun Culligan (2-0) pitched four innings of shutout relief baseball as Auburn University at Montgomery defeated the University of Mobile 7-5 in afternoon baseball action.
Culligan came on in relief of AUM starter Jeff Van Fossen in the sixth inning with the score even at five. >From there Culligan shut down Mobile allowing only two hits during his four innings of work.
Culligan was able to pick up the win when Justin Williams led off the seventh inning with a homerun to give the Senators a 6-5 lead. It was only his second home run of the season.
AUM added an insurance run in the eighth on a Clay Booth sacrifice fly to score Matt Dunaway.
Williams finished the game with three hits and scored three runs and had an RBI. Cody Chizmar also had three hits and scored a run. Booth and Cody Shields each added two hits and two RBI as the Senators out-hit Mobile 14-8.
Stephen Stork and Kevin Orso hit two-run homeruns for Mobile to lead the Rams offense. Brad Sheffield and Brandon Tuner each had two hits.
Matthew Brown picked up the loss in relief of Mobile starter Corey Fountain. Brown pitched four innings allowing six hits and three runs.
AUM moves to 23-15 on the season and will be back home tomorrow when it host Georgia Southwestern State University at 4 p.m.
