AMERICUS, Ga.—Kevin Carroll hit a sacrifice fly scoring Jared Allen in the bottom of the 12th inning to give Georgia Southwestern State University a 4-3 win over Auburn University at Montgomery.
The Senators scored once in the first and once in the second to lead 2-0, before GSWU scored solo runs in the third and fifth innings to even the score.
In the top of the ninth, AUM scored the go-ahead run in when Tanner Williams doubled scoring Matt Dunaway.
Ridgley Plaines pitched well for AUM, but gave up a run-scoring double in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Plaines finished the game pitching nine innings and allowing three runs, two earned, and had four strikeouts.
The game stayed even through 11 innings, but the bottom of the 12th found an old nemesis hit the Senators once again as Allen led off the inning and was able to get on base on an AUM error. AUM committed two errors in the game that led to two unearned runs in the extra inning loss.
Shane Moye led AUM with two hits, while eight other AUM batters had one hit each.
AUM falls to 9-8 overall and GSWU moves to 8-9. The Senators will jump into conference action this weekend when it hosts Southern Wesleyan University. The two teams will open up the series with a single game on Friday evening beginning at 6 p.m.
