CHATTANOOGA, TN – For the second game in a row, the Biscuits fell by a final score of 6-5. This time, the loss came via Corey Smith’s 10th inning, walk off solo-homer off Paul Phillips.
The three and a half hour contest began with a 1-1 tie after an inning. The teams again traded runs in the fourth to make it 2-2 before the Lookouts answered a Biscuits fifth inning run with two in the bottom-half, taking their first lead of the night at 4-3 on a double from Andrew Lambo.
In the seventh inning, Drew Anderson tripled with one out for the Biscuits. After a pop-out from Craig Albernaz, walks to John Matulia and Emeel Salem loaded the bases for Chris De La Cruz. De La Cruz ripped one down the third base line, which Smith grabbed deep behind the bag and promptly threw past first baseman Eddy Perez. Both Anderson and Salem scored, and the Biscuits retook the lead at 5-4.
But Dee Gordon hit his first homer of the season in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 5-5 and send it into extras.
The Lookouts nearly ended things in the ninth, loading the bases against Phillips with one out. Phillips was able to strike out Lambo and get Perez to pop out to extend the game for one more inning.
Matt Fields led the Biscuits, going 2-5 and hitting his fourth homer of the season. Lambo was 3-5 to pace Chattanooga.
With the loss, Phillips is now 2-1. Javy Guerra (1-0) pitched the 10th inning and takes the win for the Lookouts.
In the final game of the road trip on Friday night, the Biscuits send RHP Jeremy Hall to the mound to face off against Chattanooga RHP Jesus Castillo, beginning at 6:15.
