Loss Ensures Losing First Half for Biscuits

JACKSON, TN - West Tenn scored twice in the first inning and didn't look back, defeating the Biscuits, 7-2, in game two of a five-game series at Pringles Park on Thursday night. The loss drops the Biscuits record to 31-36, their 36th loss ensuring a losing first half.

Three consecutive singles to start the game, netted the Diamond Jaxx a quick 2-0 advantage. Mel Stocker started the first with a single off of Biscuits' starter Brandon Mann. He stole second and advanced to third when Gavin Dickey singled behind him. Marshall Hubbard contributed the third straight single to score Stocker and give the Jaxx a 1-0 lead. A double-play ball from Yamid Haad scored the second run of the inning.

The Biscuits sliced the lead in half as quickly as they possibly could in the top of the second inning. Matt Fields launched his first Double-A home run off the scoreboard in right-center field off Jaxx starter Kyle Parker to lead off the inning, trimming the deficit 2-1.

West Diamond extended their lead and chased Brandon Mann with a three-run fourth inning. Yamid Haad opened the inning with a double and Johan Limonta was walked on four pitches. Dave Espinosa then ripped a triple into the right field-corner to score both runners for a 4-1 advantage. Matt Mangini capped the inning with an RBI single to plate Espinosa with the third run of the inning.

Again the Biscuits responded in a hurry as Matt Spring unloaded on his third home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning.

Mann (4-4) lasted four innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits. He was saddled with the loss for Montgomery.

Parker worked six innings for the win, allowed the two solo-home runs and five total hits. He struck out six as he won for the fourth time on the season and second time over the Biscuits.

The Jaxx tacked on insurance runs against relievers Rayner Oliveros and Ryan Reid in the sixth and eighth innings. Oliveros surrendering the run in the sixth, while Reid allowed a run in the eighth.

Mumba Rivera worked two scoreless innings of relief in the seventh and eighth innings before Ricky Orta finished off the Jaxx win with a scoreless ninth.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Friday night at Pringles Park. RHP Heath Rollins (5-5, 3.93) will make the start for Montgomery against RHP Luis Munoz (2-2, 4.60) for West Tenn.
