HOOVER, AL - Brian Baker was again superb as the Biscuits rolled over the Birmingham Barons, 6-1, to salvage the final game of a five-game series on Tuesday night at Regions Park.

The Biscuits struck first in the fourth inning, plating three runs off of Barons' starter Kyle McCulloch. McCulloch walked Drew Anderson to lead off the inning and rehabbing Pat Burrell single to put two aboard. A ground out sent the pair to second and third, and Fernando Cortez drove in a pair with a single to right field for a 2-0 win. JT Hall followed with a double to score Cortez and the Biscuits led 3-0.

Montgomery tacked on a run in the fifth inning, when Desmond Jennings led off with a single. Anderson followed with a single and Burrell walked to load the bases. Jennings scored as Matt Fields lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, and the Biscuits led 4-0.

McCulloch conceded two more runs prior to his departure in the sixth. Cortez sparked the frame with a leadoff single and promptly stole second base. A batter later, Cesar Suarez singled to put two aboard. With two outs, Matt Spring ripped a double to the alley in right-center field to score both runners and increase the Biscuits advantage to 6-0.

Meanwhile, Baker was cruising again. He extended his scoreless innings streak into the sixth inning before Tyler Flowers snapped the record-setting streak with a solo-home run to right field to put the Barons on the board, 6-1. Baker (3-0) earned his third straight win, going six innings and allowing just the lone run on five hits. He matched a season-high with seven strikeouts and ran his scoreless innings streak to 30 innings, before Flowers snapped it.

McCulloch (5-6) took the loss for the Barons, conceding six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. He permitted eight hits and walked four while striking out three.

Neal Frontz worked the final three innings of the ballgame, firing three scoreless innings of relief to earn his first save of the season. With the win, the Biscuits staved off first half elimination.

The Biscuits enjoy a league-wide off day on Wednesday, before opening a five-game series at Riverwalk Stadium against the Chattanooga Lookouts (Los Angeles Dodgers) on Thursday night at 7:05 PM.
