Suns take opener from Biscuits, 10-3

Montgomery gives up lead in late innings

By Adam Bagni

MONTGOMERY - The Jacksonville Suns (32-34; 65-71) scored nine runs in the final two frames to come back and beat the Montgomery Biscuits (34-31; 68-67), 10-3, in the opener of a five game set at Riverwalk Stadium.

Jason Cromer pitched well for the Biscuits, lasting six innings, scattering five hits and allowing only one run to score in a bases loaded no-outs jam in his final frame of work.

Montgomery jumped out to two-run lead, fueled by leadoff man Rashad Eldridge. With Josh Asanovich at first, he smacked a double to score the first tally of the game, followed by a two-out triple and a dash home on a wild pitch, to make the score, 2-0. Eldridge finished the night 4-for-5 with both of the Biscuits' RBIs and fell just short of the cycle, nearly missing a home run in his fourth at-bat.

Jacksonville starter Josh Lindblom also had a solid outing, giving up two runs in five innings, followed by a trio of stellar relief efforts.

The Biscuits bullpen struggled mightily in the eighth and ninth innings. Led by Andrew Lambo, the Suns plated six in the eighth and three more in the ninth to put the game far out of reach. Lambo mashed a three-run double and added a three-run homer, knocking in six and also scoring twice.

Ryan Reid took the loss (5-4) and the blown save (5).

Brian Henderson was charged with three earned runs in his first appearance since coming off of the disabled list.

The Biscuits try to even the series in game two Friday night, behind righthander Heath Rollins.
