What If Auburn and Alabama Were In College Football Playoffs?

College football playoffs start next year but how would that have changed the post-season picture for Bama and Auburn if it were in place today?

After 16 seasons, the BCS will soon be no more, instead teams will face off in playoffs.

With the new system, how often could we see SEC schools face off post season? And could that kill some of the rivalries?

After 16 seasons, the BCS will soon be no more...and instead teams will face off in playoffs. With the new system, how often could we see SEC schools face off post season...and could that kill some of the rivalries?

If this were 2014, this is what the college football playoff scenario would look like. #1 Florida State would take on #4 Michigan State, while #2 Auburn would face #3 Alabama. If this were 2014, the playoffs would essentially create another Iron Bowl but is that something fans would want to see?

"I think it'd be awesome," says Auburn fan Blake Morrison. "I was hoping FSU was going to lose so Auburn and Alabama were going to play in the national again."

"It would make it intense," says Arianna Maxwell. "Like the rivalry is already strong now and to think if they played another game, it would be, it would be amazing."

Iit's not just Alabama and Auburn that could face off again in the new playoff system. Because the SEC is such a strong conference, other rivals could see each other post season as well, like Auburn/Georgia or Bama/LSU. Sports Analyst John Longshore says although it's not very likely, it could happen.

"To get two teams from one conference to in that top four is going to be difficult," he says. "Now of course, the SEC has had some pretty good success with that over the years, having two teams, not only be in the final four but play each other for the championship."

Like in 2011, when Alabama played LSU in the championship game. But even if two SEC rivals don't play each other, some fans say they're excited to see how the new playoff system works.

"It'll bring a good amount of intensity and I mean, it'll be fun to watch more football," says Brandon Stevens.
