From the West Alabama Newsroom-- The annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee in Selma is just a couple of weeks away -- and organizers are putting the finishing touches on preparations for the city's biggest tourist event of the year.
The annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee features about forty events highlighted by the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
Jubilee organizers say a call to restore Section Five of the Voting Rights Act will be an on-going theme of this year's event. The United States Supreme Court overturned that section of the law last year.
"The whole weekend is going to be dealing with the Voting Rights Act, trying to restore Section Five," said Jubilee Co-Coordinator Sam Walker.
The Bridge Crossing Jubilee commemorates Bloody Sunday-- the Selma to Montgomery March-- And the passage of the Voting Rights Act. The Jubilee is March 6th through 10th.
