Annual Historic Selma Pilgrimage Showcases State's Largest Historic District

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The largest historic district in the state of Alabama will be on display this weekend in Selma.

The 39th Annual Historic Selma Pilgrimage features guided tours through some of the historic homes and buildings around the city.

Organizers say sixteen venues will be open for touring this year. They say the pilgrimage draws hundreds of people each year -- to experience the history -- and architecture.

"We have people who come every year, some of them from other states. We can depend on seeing them. We see those people who are coming, they say, you all have the most interesting homes and you just can't get enough of this kind of thing once you see it," said Jewell Williamson with the Selma-Dallas County historic Preservation Society.
