Troy University opened the doors to its new Trojan Arena this afternoon. The $40 million facility will house the men's and women's basketball teams, track and field and volleyball.
After 50 years, the Trojan Arena is replacing Sartain Hall, and the new arena will seat twice as many people.
Fans say the new facility sets them apart from any other school in the Sun Belt Conference.
Troy University has officially opened its new Trojan Arena. The building stands two stories tall covering more than 141,000 square feet.
The construction took two years to complete, and the total cost was $40 million.
The scoreboards alone cost $1 million each, and are the largest of their kind in the country.
Chancellor Jack Hawkins says the arena is an investment for the school.
"I think it reflects our philosophy that you measure two or three times before you cut, and through that there's value engineering that took a $40 million building and turned into a $50-60 million product," he says.
The building also houses the new Troy University Sports Hall of Fame.
The first game that will be played at the arena is November 9. That's the day before Troy's football team takes on Navy.
