South Alabama Prepares For Winter Weather
Authorities across South Alabama are concerned about icy roads, losing power, and preparing to handle any emergency as winter weather rolls in, and they aren't wasting any time to get ready.
As Winter weather heads towards South Alabama, meetings were held in Andalusia, Covington County and Butler County to talk with officials about plans to handle emergencies like losing power and icy roads.
"Basically talking to the police and fire department and make sure that we got all our equipment tuned up and filled up with fuel, and all of our saws and all of our equipment ready to go in case of emergency," says Earl Johnson, the Mayor of Andalusia.
And with roads already wet from off and on rain, keeping drivers safe, even with potentially icy roads, is a main concern for everyone, "The road department, they have salt and everything if they need to ice the bridges down or anything they have salt on hand prepared to do that," says Butler County Sheriff, Kenny Harden.
Officials also warn their communities to stay home and off the roads if possible to keep everyone safe and roads clear for emergency vehicles.
