One East Montgomery Manhunt Suspect Arrested, Search Continues for Other

Montgomery police say they've arrested one of the two suspects wanted in the assault and robbery of a woman in East Montgomery.

Police say the woman's home was broken into Tuesday afternoon after a chain of crimes committed across Montgomery County.  Officers arrested 30-year old Tawaine McCullough and believe he is one of two people wanted by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in an attempted burglary that happened earlier Tuesday in Pike Road.

The Sheriff's office says McCullough has a history with break-ins in Montgomery County, and escaped police Tuesday afternoon following a high speed chase after the break-in on Vaughn Road with the other suspect. When the men reached Montgomery city limits they wrecked their vehicle into a parked car at Pri-Med on the Atlanta Highway, then ran from police in different directions.

"They stood the chance of hitting an innocent coming through an intersection section," said Captain Mark Thompson with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. "They should be considered dangerous."

McCullough darted to the neighboring Taylor Crossing Apartment development and assualted and robbed a woman in the 7000 block of Taylor Crossing Drive. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released.

"She was actually opening the door to her home when he charged in and overpowered her, assaulted her and took her keys and stole her car," said Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy.

Tawaine McCullough is charged with one count each of attempted murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. He is being held on bonds totaling $300,000. Officers say McCollough was taken into custody in Wetumpka Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.

"At this time we do not have a name of the second suspect, but we expect to develop something from the evidence that was collected," Thompson said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says evidence like DNA and fingerprints from the suspects' wrecked vehicle are being processed and should produce results to capture and arrest McCullough's accomplice.
