How to Avoid I-85 Construction on Your Way to the Auburn Game

Thousands of fans will be heading to Auburn on Saturday for the Tiger's first home game of the season. Auburn will take on Louisiana Monroe. But will construction on interstate 85 cause major traffic troubles?

Many Auburn fans are worried construction on I-85 will cause congestion on Saturday.

But we spoke with City Engineer Jeffery Ramsey, and he says there shouldn't be traffic as long as you follow suggested routes.

"This project has been probably going on for 18 months or more," Ramsey says.

Exit 50 is a dream come true for the city of Auburn.

"This interchange will allow us to have another way for people that are on I-85 to get to the city of Auburn," says Ramsey.

But a nightmare for Tiger fans.

"It's kind of always been backed up on 85," says one Tiger fan.

And while the project is close to completion, Ramsey says work won't wrap up until winter. So until then, which route should Tiger fans take to the game on Saturday?

"If you're coming from Montgomery, we would suggest taking the Wire Road Exit, and then Wire Road goes directly into Auburn University," he says.

That way you'll avoid the construction all together.

Some fans are taking the advice.

"I usually take Wire Road on game days to avoid traffic. It's a lot easier that way," says fan Hayden Hillard.

As it stands, Ramsey says completion for the project is set for December.
