There are some big plans for Prattville's High Point Town Center... the outdoor shopping center is bringing in lots of businesses to fill up empty spaces...
If you walk around High Point Town Center now, you'll notice many of those stores aren't stores at all -- in fact, there are a lot of vacant shops. But that's all about to change.
"One of the most common things that we've had to do in Prattville... if you want anywhere nice to eat or really nice to go buy some clothes or different things... we had to go outside the city of Prattville," Said Prattville Mayor, Bill Gillespie.
But not for long. While this shopping center might look deserted now, many of these "for lease" signs will be coming down. Jim Wilson and Associates, the property manager for High Point Town Center, has announced 25,000 sq. ft. of new stores are on their way -- that's at least eight new businesses.
"And on top of that, you'll have probably 70, 80 construction jobs that'll be going on here quickly and then you'll have full time jobs that they'll be staffing the stores with," Said President of Jim Wilson and Associates, Will Wilson. This means about 120 new jobs coming to Prattville because 30 percent of the shopping center will fill up by early summer, according to Wilson.
"It's kind of intimidating all these empty spaces," Said Bridgette Pugh, who owns a floral store in the outdoor mall, who's seen her business suffer in the last two years from all the vacancies.
"When some of the other businesses get in, I anticipate our business to pick up greatly," Said Pugh.
Opening doors to Prattville's economy, estimating $10,000 to $15,000 in new sales in 2013.
"Hopefully, we're expecting good business in this plaza. There's a lot of companies coming in right now. It's king of empty, but hopefully the landlord will work things out with others," Said Si Tran, owner of a nail salon at the
High Point Town Center.
Some of those new businesses include a Kinnucan's, Chappy's Deli and New York Diamond. They're also in negotiating leases with a homestore, salon and doctor's office, although they're not releasing the names of those businesses yet.
Most of these stores are expected to open early summer and for those who would like to apply for any of these jobs can start applying late spring.
