People in Butler County spent the weekend helping students whose parents can't buy supplies they'll need for the school year...
It's called the "Fill the Bus" campaign -- a three day effort by the Butler County Retired Educators Association to get the community involved in helping students start school on the right track.
People donated everything from pencils, notebooks, and folders. Organizers say they raised more than $5,000 in school supplies and another $650 in monetary donations throughout the weekend.
The supplies will be distributed to students, teachers and nurses in Butler County's six schools in the coming weeks.
Organizers estimate a 70-percent increase of donated school supplies compared to how much they received last year, which means every teacher and nurse will receive items to distribute to their students.
