Entertainment Investments In Greenville

By Catalina Trivino

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are being poured into entertainment in Greenville, including a nearly $1 million investment into its local movie theater. But that's not all...

It's out with old and in with the new when it comes to the way you watch movies in Greenville. $800,000 dollars worth of equipment has been invested at The Edge movie theater by the company -- and they've turned in old-school 35-millimeter projectors for new high-end digital projectors. That means 3-D films can be watched and that's reeling in the green...

"This year there are 52 3-D movies that are released. If we don't have those movies here in Greenville, people are going to go to other venues in other areas to watch those movies," Said General Operations Manager at The Edge, Michael Nimmer.

Meanwhile across town, The Ritz is gearing up for its show, "Puttin' On the Ritz." All the money raised from selling tickets is part of a fundraiser for the season, which starts next fall. That money will not only be used to bring entertainers in, but it will also help make improvements for the building.

But if movies and shows aren't your thing, then you can join more than 35,000 people who visit Robert Trent Jones' at Cambrian Ridge Golf Course every year. Cambrian Ridge officials tell us they're currently doing renovations on parts of the course. City leaders say the course brings millions of dollars into the city.

"What would Greenville, Alabama be without Cambrian Ridge, the movie theater, you know we'd be just a little sleepy town and those three things change the outlook of Greenville," Said Greenville Mayor, Dexter McLendon.

But some residents say they wish other options were available for entertainment.

"I really would like to see a bowling alley," Said resident, Lizzie Scott.

"You know, a mall or something like that there or a skating rink," Said another resident, Virgil Acreman.
