Fiscal Cliff May Cut Thousands of Alabama Jobs and Millions from Schools

State officials say Alabama may lose thousands of jobs and millions in funding for schools if the President and congress don't strike a deal before the so called "fiscal cliff."
 
Governor Robert Bentley says the potential cuts will affect everything. The National Governors Association estimates Alabama could lose more than 24,000 jobs. Another study shows nearly 39,000 jobs lost.

About 18,000 out of work Alabamians would lose their extended unemployment benefits by January 1st. Public schools would also lose about $100 million in federal funds, which help special needs students and school lunch programs.
