Tyson Claims Authority on Task Force

MONTGOMERY (WNCF) – The commander of the governor’s task force on illegal gambling told a court Friday that he has authority on the issue throughout the state.

John Tyson, testifying in a Macon County courtroom, said his appointment by the governor gives him the statewide power to shut down gaming facilities and confiscate electronic gaming machines.

Tyson was responding to angry questioning from District Attorney Paul Jones. A circuit court judge is trying to decide whether or not to block Tyson and his task force from disrupting operations at Victoryland in Shorter.
