It's out with the old and in with the new for the Troy Police department's arsenal.

The city council gave the final approval for the purchase of 30 new shotguns.  Each patrol officer is issued a shotgun and right now some of them are up to 25 years old. The old ones will be traded in so the new ones will cost the city around $11,000.

Bryan Weed Troy Police Lieutenant Bryan Weed said, "There's going to be improvements in the accuracy and also the sighting systems with the weapons that are going to make them more sure. Anytime like that, any type of equipment is definitely a benefit to the public as well as the officers."

Now with the council's final approval, the department will place the order for the new guns.
