Draft Beer Petition Circulating In Troy
Forty two out of 67 counties in Alabama allow alcohol sales. And out of that 42, more than half allow the sale of draft beer. But that doesn't include Pike County.
Sips on the Square started a petition to change that. Close to 300 people have signed it, calling for a lift on the ban just for draft beer in restaurants and bars. It doesn't apply to the ability to buy a keg and take it with you. Some stores want to be included if it becomes a reality.
Teresa Rutherford, a manager at Sunny South said, "I mean there's no difference, you already sell it in the can, you sell it in the bottle. The only difference is it's draft beer. I mean it is good for the revenue...we could be selling it here instead of people going over the lines to get it. That would be money for our community."
Sips owners will meet with the Troy City Council on February 11th during a work session. If the council decides to move forward, it would then go up to the state legislature.
