Deer-Car Collisions On The Rise
A driver is injured after hitting a deer in Pike County. Crews responded to the accident just after 8:30 this morning. It happened right off of Highway 29 in Banks. The driver had minor injuries.
Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas says there's been more deer-car collisions in the few weeks since the end of deer hunting season than the entire season combined.
Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said, "well if you see a deer and you have time you need to slow down. Extremely slow. It's hard to judge which way that deer's going to run."
Samuel Osborne, who totaled his car avoiding a deer said, "All you've got to worry about is the breaks and staying in between the lines. If you hit the deer hit the deer. You won't end up upside down like me."
One reason you see more deer in late winter is because vegetation is dying so there are more deer grassing near greenery on the side of roadways.
