Animal Shelter Experiencing Extreme Overcrowding

By Amanda Wade

Andalusia's animal shelter is waiving adoption fees, bringing the fee from $92 to $62 in an effort to help with extreme overcrowding.

Shelter operators say this is the worst over crowding they have had in nearly 10 years. The shelter is triple its capacity for dogs and double for cats. Operators say they see a yearly spike in animals coming to the shelter each Spring, but right now they are not able to take any more animals in until others are adopted.

Operators expect to wave the adoption fee for the next one to two weeks, and are opened Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:30pm.
