Consumer Alert: Toyota Issues Recall on 870,000 Vehicles
Toyota is recalling 870,000 vehicles over an issue that -- in some cases -- was caused by spiders. A problem with an air conditioner part could cause airbags to deploy unnecessarily.
There could also be a loss of power-steering force.
Toyota says spider webs can cause a blockage in a drainage tube from the air conditioner condenser. That can lead to a short circuit in the airbag system.
The vehicles involved are model year 2012 and 2013 Camrys, Venzas and Avalons, including hybrid versions of those cars.
Owners will be notified by mail to take their vehicle to a Toyota dealer where the necessary work will be performed free of charge.
