Who could be Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange's successor?

One political website polls readers to get an idea and the hypothetical poll has people talking.

Mayor Todd Strange has not announced if he will or will not run for re-election so this poll does not include him. But it does include some notable Montgomery residents.

Senator Quinton Ross, Representative Joe Hubbard, former Congressman Artur Davis and Probate Judge Steven Reed are the hypothetical candidates. The confidential polling results are on alreporter.com, a website dedicated to political news in the state of Alabama. Bill Britt is the editor in chief.

"What we had is basically a summary of the report, what would be given to a specific candidate to show them how they were doing among a field," he says.

Although there's no numerical data, Britt says the results show Ross leading in the poll, which was conducted in January using more than 11 hundred voters. Hubbard and Davis are tied in 2nd place, and the results show Reed coming in last.

"Those are four very strong, strong individuals and so there's a lot of questions," says Britt. "Are they going to run?"

None of the men named in the poll have said they are going to run for Mayor. Ross tells us it's an honor to even be mentioned for the job, though he says he isn't making much of it.

"My first thought is just to be humbled and honored just to be considered and put in somebody's poll," Ross says. "You have to understand polls, polls are often times...they're skewed and it just depends."

The polling results are within a 2.9 percent margin of error. Hubbard says being mentioned in the poll validates the politcal efforts he's made.

"It means just about as much as anybody wants it to mean," Hubbard says. "As for me, I simply take it to indicate that my efforts on behalf of this city are being recognized by somebody, even if it's somebody in the political world."

We spoke to Probate Judge Steven Reed by phone who told us he too is flattered to be mentioned, though he says he is dedicated to serving in his role as probate judge.
