.. antioxidant-rich foods and beverages have long been heralded as healthy additions to your diet.
But now new research shows they may not offer protection against stroke or dementia.
The study, just published in the journal Neurology, looked at medical records of more than 5-thousand people age 55 and older who had no signs of dementia when the study began.
Each filled out questionnaires about how often they ate 170 specific foods. Based on their antioxidant consumption, the participants were then split into three groups --- low, moderate or high intake.
During nearly 14 years of follow-up...approximately 6-hundred people developed dementia, while another 6-hundred had a stroke.
Interestingly, researchers found that people with high levels of antioxidants were no more or less likely to develop brain disease than people with low levels of antioxidants.
