An Alabama man who was accused in the shaking death of his infant son has pleaded guilty of manslaughter.

The Tuscaloosa News reports that 33-year-old Miguel Juan of Northport avoided a potential death sentence by entering the plea Tuesday in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court. He received a 20-year sentence.

Juan was accused of causing the death of his 4-month old son at their Green Village mobile home in 2010. He was initially charged with capital murder, but reached a plea agreement with prosecutors that allowed him to plead guilty to manslaughter.
