Troy Kicks off Christmas Season with Biggest Parade in City's History
The City of Troy kicked off the holiday season Monday night with the annual Christmas parade. Troy Mayor Jason Reeves tells CBS 8 it’s one of the biggest Christmas events in the City’s history with 71 entries in all.
That number included everything from the Troy University marching band to floats from city officials and local businesses. Hundreds of people came to Troy’s downtown square to watch the parade and annual Christmas tree lighting, including one very special guest all the way from the North Pole.
“All Christmas parades are important so the little kids can get to see Santa, and some of the kids, I think some of the big kids love it more than the little ones," said Santa Claus, who rode in last at this year's parade on top of a city fire truck.
City officials say not only were there more floats, this parade had drew of the biggest crowds in recent years.
