Will High Water Levels Dampen the Coosa River Whitewater Festival?

Several hundred people are heading to Wetumpka for the annual Coosa River Whitewater Festival. But has the heavy rainfall this spring put a damper on this weekend's festivities?

Chris Carter owns Coosa River Adventures in Wetumpka. He's one of the organizers of the Whitewater festival.

"Basically it's a three day event. On Friday, today, is where they set up and practice," he says.

Last week, we spoke to Carter. He told us the heavy rains this spring have forced him to cancel a number of trips, which is dramatically hurting his business and causing the river to swell 14 feet above average.

Thankfully this week, the rain has held off.

Carter says it's been a relief, because "we are a weather driven business. We are all about weather. "

Greg Chalker just arrived. It's his fifth year attending the festival.

"I keep coming back, because I love the water. I love the Coosa."

Carter is hoping this weekend makes up for the slow sales this spring, and even though there's a chance of rain this weekend, Carter is looking on the sunny side.

"Nothing against the CBS 8 News team and Ashley, but please just predict us some great weather," he says."

If you plan on making your way to the Coosa River this weekend, organizers ask you do not bring Styrofoam coolers and glass bottles.
