From the West Alabama Newsroom-- A Wilcox County woman who was about to go on trial for murder - pleads guilty to manslaughter.
Linda Whitted of Lower Peachtree is now facing from two - up to twenty years in prison. Whitted shot and killed Christine Portis also of Lower Peachtree back in 2007 after an argument between the two women over a car.
"That escalated into a physical altercation at some point the victim may have actually had a kitchen knife and cut the defendant at which time the defendant, time later did pull out a gun and shoot her causing her death," said Assistant District Attorney Lloria James.
Áshley Portis is the victim's daughter. "So many young people out here disrespect their momma, when your momma dead and gone there's nobody, can't nobody fill that place of your mother," said Portis.
A sentencing hearing for Whitted has been set for June 28th
