Wilcox Co. Schools Superintendent Search Underway

By George McDonald

From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--  The Wilcox County School system is searching for its third superintendent of schools in about as many years.

Current superintendent Dr. Rosa Ashmon has decided to retire after two years on the job-- and one year left on her contract.

Wilcox County resident Theodore Kimmons says he wants the school board to hire someone with ties to the community to replace Ashmon.

"Our county really import people, and we need to stop importing people to fill these jobs in our county that have a great importance on our needs," said Kimmons. "We need people that's in our community that know us, that know our needs to help us do what we need to do."

The Wilcox County School district is made up of four elementary schools-one middle school-and one high school.

Ashmon's retirement as superintendent is effective January 1st.
