Weather Cuts Montgomery Fireworks Short
Thursday's weather wasn't perfect, but downtown Montgomery was still treated to a fireworks show.
However, Some spectators are saying they were disappointed with the display.
Hundreds showed up to celebrate independence day in downtown Montgomery last night. The local Creek casinos helped the city pay for the fireworks show, but some people thought it was a little short.
"In years past it was a little longer but I still enjoyed it. I can really tell the revitalization of downtown is coming along," said resident Matthew Maddox.
"It was a little short. The weather wasn't that great so that might have had something to do with it, but I still enjoyed it," said George Whalum, who was also at the show.
Tom Pierce, Superintendent of the Riverfront, says that things didn't go completely as planned for the show. The weather cut things a little shorter than he would have liked.
"As soon as it was over the pyrotech came over and informed me we had some issues as soon as we started the show. Wind picked up which affected the display. He also said they had a number of shells that pre detonated which had an affect on the entire show," said Pierce.
One resident thinks there would have been a bigger turnout, even in the bad weather, if the show had followed a Biscuits game, like last year.
"They need to do something to help with the low turnout. I think not having the Biscuits play really hurt, because the Biscuits were here last year," said Jessica Taylor.
