VictoryLand Casino To Open Before End Of Year

Tools

By Lisa Blackwell

More jobs could be coming to Macon County.

That's because Victoryland Casino plans to reopen before the end of the year.

Tuskegee's newly elected mayor, Johnny Ford says a 64 million dollar lawsuit was holding up the reopening of VictoryLand. He says now that a judge has thrown out it out, the casino can move forward with reopening.

Christmas could come early for Macon County. Newly elected Mayor Johnny Ford says he ran on that promise and it will come true.

"I project that we'll have another wonderful Christmas in Macon County with VictoryLand being fully reopened, people being re-employed millions of dollars coming again to our local community," said Ford.

VictoryLand's website shows the casino is accepting applications. Milton McGregors attorney, Joe Espy confirms they are building a pool of qualified applicants and will open before the end of the year.

Ford says Macon County residents approved a constitutional amendment back in 2003 that makes bingo legal there. He says new gaming machines will be legal too.

"They are in the process of getting the machines the same machines the Indians are using now the same electronic machines they're using in Green County, the financing will be in place I'm sure there is no obstacle they can't overcome," said Ford.

Ford says just turning the lights on will generate revenue.

"The opening of VictoryLand is a 2.5 million dollar utility customer for the utility board of Tuskegee," said Ford.

Residents say people could really use the jobs.

John Johnson, a Shorter resident, says "I think it would be good for Macon County you got good jobs, a lot of people out of work, it puts a lot of people back to work."

Billy Gann, Owner of BK National Tire, says "They definitely need jobs around here shorter and macon county both were doing great when they were open."

Ford says VictoryLand reopening would create 2000 jobs. He encourages people in Macon County to fill out an application because seventy five percent of VictoryLand workers must live in Macon County.

Some at the state level are still fighting against electronic bingo so this battle isn't over.

Good! That area, along with many others, needs jobs. The AG needs to uphold the legal constitutional amendments passed in certain counties and accept that bingo can be paperless just like poker and many other games played electronically.

PLEASE set your games BACK to the way they were. (*_*) We use to love to come to your casino but when you changed your machines the last time well - THEY STINK. Sorry to say this but your casino use to be our favorite but we would rather go to biloxi if your machines are still like they were when you closed. GOOD LUCK

The reason the machines were changed in the first place was to put a sock in Riley's mouth that they were illegal. Now, is it really that hard to "DAUB?" The problem isn't the machines, the problem is the officials that some of you put into office.

The people in Shorter and Macon County are hard working and they deserve to have good paying jobs. Victoryland provided the people in that area a chance to provide for their families. The former governor didnt care about them having jobs. He prove that by closing Victoryland so he could help the indian casino!

This is good news for our state. The government needs to stay out of it this time. Its sad they let this man build a hotel and then close him down. It was sad for the people who lost their jobs. It also made our state look so stupid. I wish him nothing but good luck. This will bring money to our state which we need so bad.

I am glad to hear that there is an opportunity that Victoryland will reopen and offer many jobs to the community. However, I don't see them paying out any better on those machines any differnently than their competition. They have a poor rate of return because ther is no governing body to watch over them. I also hope to see better room rates and hopefully better customer service and food service.

I think it's a shame that so many people were out of work for so long because of what I feel is negligent politics and discriminatory practices by our elected officials. To allow other casinos to operate and not pay out near the payouts that Victory Land did is nothing but discriminatory. Alabama is in critical need of tax revenue and the tax payer and employees of Victory Land and the state of Alabama as a whole that will be the one's that suffer. As well as the generations that follow, if these practices aren't stopped. Enough said. God's speed and good luck to the Victory Land comeback.

Binky if you honestly think victoryland paid out better than the other casinos in the area you obviously didnt spend much time there. It needed to be closed when they did because they were using the monopoly as a way to rip off the players with ridiculously terrible payouts.

No matter what you call it, none of these BINGO games are legal when the house controls the ODDS. Take 1 ball from the hopper at church bingo and the odds change dramatically against you.If your chance of winning $1,000,000 are the same as hitting a cherry there might be a chance of a BINGO.

I am glad to hear that Victory Land will soon re-open, I think it is a shame and a dis-grace that this happen. You know money is the root of all evil-and those that did this to Milton Macgregor will pay in for it in God's time. Mr. MacGregor was the only business I heard of that was trying to help the state of Alabam, by returning monies back to the community. I am behind Mr. MacGregor all the way. I pray that God bless him even more and the people that

Am looking forward to the reopening. But I, as others, do not like the daub now feature; it seems as if the machine can be fixed even more so. And, if you don't "daub" when the machine tells you lose your chance.

I can't wait, my wife and I have been going there for years, we have won some good money there between the dogs and the slots. I look at it as therapy some people pay doctors I pay dogs and slot machines. Was recently in Biloxi and their machines were a joke you couldn't win they would keep you even at times and then take your money making you feel like it may hit real soon and real soon never came.

Very excited! This will mean so much to so many people especially a family that had to suffer unemployment due to this terrible horrific situation with the State of Ala. I live in NC and this was an occasional meeting place for me and my family to get together and spend some quality time while getting a little therapy at the same time. Alabama is in a spot, right off I85 to get revenues from both North and South. It can be very therapeutic if one does not become addictive.
