Verizon Donates To Sightsavers KidCheck

By Lisa Blackwell

The Sight Savers America Kid Check Program is getting a financial boost and technological overhaul.

Verizon Wireless Foundation awarded 100,000 dollars in grant money to the program.

Kid Check provides school based health screenings to children in grades K through 12.

The grant will allow KidCheck to implement technology that will speed up screenings and make access to data faster.

Jeff Mango, Regional Vice President, Verizon Wireless, says “Essentially we are able to put Netbooks as well as scanners into the hands of nurses so that all of the information that they’re collecting is filled into the computer and then it’s given a bar code so each child has a bar code attached with their information and now when you scan that bar code up in the future you can get all of their previous data and information.”

Sight Savers services 25,000 children per year.
