State troopers had to shut down Interstate 65 in central Alabama after an 18-wheeler hauling alcohol crashed into a bridge support, sparking a fire.
Authorities say truck ran off the highway and hit an overpass about 5:30 a.m. Thursday in Clanton.
The interstate was shut down in both directions for several hours as the flames died down. Truck debris and broken liquor bottles littered the highway afterward.
State trooper spokesman Sgt. Steve Jarrett tells WBRC-TV
that the driver suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.
A transportation department official says damage to the bridge is minimal.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
