Troy University Student Discount Cards Exceeding Expectations

By Brittany Bivins

Shopping locally in Pike County will soon be easier for Troy University students, and more than 50 businesses are jumping on board.

Troy's Student Government Association and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce are introducing new Student Discount Cards this month. They'll give extra discounts exclusively to Troy students for a full year.

SGA representatives say local restaurants, clothing boutiques and furniture shops have all signed onto the program. They say the idea has caught on quickly with vendors and exceeded their expectations.

"The initial goal of 25 businesses was a good goal for us to set, very realistic, but at the same time, I'm very surprised that we've gotten it up to 55, that's a lot. That covers the majority of Pike County, but I'm very excited about that," said Will Thompson, SGA President.

Each vendor sets its own discount for the cards, which will stay valid until December. Students can buy the cards by the end of this month through the SGA for $5 each.
