Troy Fixing Sidewalks For Less

By Alabama News Network

A smoother walk is in the future for Troy residents.

Joseph Norris, Business Development Precision Concrete Cutting said, "With the City of Troy particularly we are saving over a half million dollars with this one project."

The project stretches all across the downtown district, shaving down uneven parts of concrete that are trip hazards.
At a cost less than $100,000, the city saw this as not just a cheaper option in the short term. Norris said, "It would take an estimated four to five times for us to do our repairs to actually meet the cost that it would be to remove and replace sidewalk panels and pour new wet concrete."

Besides aesthetics, city leaders say this was necessary to make the sidewalks comply with the Americans with  Disabilities Act. Vaughn Daniels, Troy Director of Public Works said, "Also by improving the sidewalk, we want to encourage our citizens to them. Either for walking for their health, or traveling to the downtown district to shop, or the restaurants."

Workers say its going to take them a little over a month to have the project fully complete.
