Three Andalusia Water/Sewer Department Employees Alleged To Improperly Spend $28,000

By Catalina Trivino

It's been nearly a month since the city of Andalusia began investigating allegations of ethics violations by the city's utility board... and they've discovered thousands of dollars were spent improperly...

Mayor, Earl Johnson says an investigation by the city and Andalusia Police show three  employees from the water and sewer department spent about $28,000 in the last three years using the utility board credit card.

Johnson says they were also using utility board equipment for personal use.

He says the department head and the assistant department head have resigned. The supervisor has been placed on suspension without pay.

"You try to hire good people

, you try to give them the tools to do their job. You have to trust somebody, so it's real disheartening when it turns out that someone abuses that trust," Said Johhson.

Johnson would not comment on what items were bought with the money or release the names of the three employees.

No charges have been filed yet, but city officials say they are continuing to investigate the situation.
