Summary of Action in Alabama Legislature

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday, the 19th meeting day of the regular session:




-Passed a $5.7 billion education budget and related bills.. Goes to Senate.


-Approved a 2 percent pay raise for Alabama's public school teachers and other employees. Goes to Senate.




-Gave final passage to a bill allowing a parent to claim abandoned property of a child who died without a will. Goes to governor.


-Approved a bill saying the state's licensing of a physician, dentist or chiropractor can't be conditioned upon the person's participation in any public or private health insurance plan. Goes to House.




-House Financial Services Committee sent several bills to reform the payday loan and title pawn industries to a subcommittee for more study.
