Student Says He Was Bullied, Wants Disciplinary Action Taken

A Montgomery mother says bullying that began at Jeff Davis High School and escalated off school grounds, left her son unconscious and with a broken nose.

But because the incident did not happen on school property, she says nothing is being done about it.

Cassandra Williams says after her 15-year-old son accidentally bumped into another student in the hallway, his life was threatened when two students followed him into his classroom. She says security had to be called, and escorted all three boys to the principal's office. After a brief talk, the students went back to their classrooms. Williams tells us she's disappointed that she wasn't notified of the incident.

"I felt like if I was notified, I could have done more," she says. "I could have asked more questions. I could have went and talked with the principal and possibly talk to some of the boys' parents."

Her son, Braxton Williams, tells us he doesn't think the principal took the matter seriously.

"They had came in my classroom and tried to fight me so I thought they were going to get suspended or get away from me or something," he explains. "But the principal just sent us back to our classrooms."

Just two days after the incident, Braxton says the bullying took a dangerous turn. He says while he was trying to get into a friends car to go home, the same two boys approached him. But this time, he says additional students came with them.

"I had a broken nose, a black eye and a head concussion. I dont really remember, you know. I was blacked out."

The beating was so bad, that paramedics were called to the scene. The fight happened just feet away from Jeff Davis High School but not on school grounds. Because of this, Williams says the school has done little to stop the bullying.

"The principal told me this is something that happened off school campus so...and it happened right next to the school ."

And Braxton, tells us he believes the Principal, by not doing more to prevent the beating, is sending a bad message.

"That they can get away with doing that," he says. "They can do it to anyone if they want unless they're on school property."

Braxton Williams is currently being home schooled until his mother can make arraignments to send him to another school. He says all other boys involved in the fight are still in school.

Bravo to Ms. Williams for having the courage to come forward and stand up against a system that will turn its back on brutality because of a technicality. The school should be quelling bullying so that it doesn't spill out side onto the sidewalk. This is outrageous.

I am so tired of schools not taking a stand against bullies. I feel a demand should be put on Jeff Davis to escort the three bullies in front of the student body with Braxton and Braxton should not leave the school but instead made a hero for standing up against bullies and the three bullies be suspended. I Denice Vickers would like to handle the auditorium meeting with the student body. Bullies need to be exposed and stopped by the students taking a stand but when the adults do nothing , then the kids do nothing and the bullies continue. I have a voice and I will use it.

Our apologies Ms. Williams for her son being attacked and for the school system not doing a better job in dterring the attack - It seems the security did their job and I applaud Ms. Williams for doing her job and responsibilty , it does seem the principal may not have done his job , lets see if the superintendant will do her job .

Stand up against bullying said on Saturday, Nov 2 at 9:56 AM

Mps is not doing there job by protecting the students, if this can happen to Braxton and nobody is being punish that means it could happen to anybody child. The people that did this should be punish in some way because this happening right next to the school. School is suppose to be the safest place but jd is not a safe place. Students are bringing guns, knives, and more weapons to the schools. I believe something needs to Change because the people who did this will be the criminal on the news for capital murder ,this needs to stop. I'm glad Ms Williams is standing up against bullying. I hope more parents join and help ms Williams to get justice for Braxton.

Concerned Child of JD said on Saturday, Nov 2 at 10:04 AM

As a friend of Braxton, I think Justice should be served at Jd! Everyday there is something outrageous happening. If its not the smoking in the restrooms, its children having sex! Other staff & security Monitors know it happens but they arent putting forward the effort to stop it! Why do they do this? They think since the principal is new they can run all over him! I do not blame the principal for all of whats happening but he is part of the reason children are thinking they can get away with anything! The bullying has never stopped since i been at JD! I see children in the hall being pushed and shoved! Teachers cussing students out! Students fighting teachers and so on! I pray everyday that JD becomes a better school but after so long i think im just wasting my breath! I thought bullying was a crime now! Justice is NOT being served at JD!

REGARDING THE MESSAGE FROM "Anonymous" Friday, Nov 1 at 11:19 PM: I have known Ms. Williams, a retired U. S. military veteran, for many years. She is a supportive mother who has been active in every phase of her children’s lives. Braxton dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age in a church that I attended. He has always been extremely well-mannered and gentle, though he is an outstanding baseball player. Whoever used this tragic event as an opportunity to slander Ms. Williams and her victimized son is a liar and a coward. Such a person is not credible. Galatians 5:19-20 and Revelation 12:10 describe the type of person who would write such vicious things about this beautiful mother and son. Galatians 5:21-26 describe the attributes that resonate in Ms. Williams and her son’s character. God walks with them. It is obvious who walks with the “anonymous” writer. We pray for this family as they seek justice and the nation as we seek solutions to combat violence and hatred.

I would like justice for this incident ASAP if this principle is still there I am going to do everything in my power for the BOE to dismiss him from his duties and never let him form this type of position again.
