Structure Fire at Montgomery Retirement Home

By Alabama News Network

A scary day for residents at a Montgomery retirement home after reports of heavy smoke forced them to evacuate the building.

Montgomery fire officials say they got the call this morning from John Knox Manor on Narrow Lane Road but they say, when they arrived they found no fire.

They say a transformer had blown filling the building with smoke.
All of the residents were moved while firefighters worked to clear the smoke.

They say one person received a minor injury while exiting the elevator during the evacuation.

But no serious injuries are reported.
